What an amazing Golf Scramble! With all of the rain and wind the night before we were afraid we wouldn't even get to play. Not only did we get to run the Scramble but all 20 teams showed up along with plenty of Deer River High School students, parents, coaches, supporters, and advisors (see participant list)! From a 4th grader to retired community member and everyone in between it was a fun filled day in support of DRHS Activities. Special thanks go out to those that golfed, our hole sponsors, prize donors, and the many DRHS Activities supporters who were on hand.
After the original 9 holes of golf we had a three way tie. After the first two playoff holes the Grand Rapids crew was knocked out and sent home by the two remaining Deer River teams. Four holes later we still had a tie. The two teams decided to play a "final" one-hole playoff. After Chad Latvala drained a 30 foot putt from the edge of the green those remaining thought the winner was finally decided. The GIS team and Chris Payne had other thoughts after Chris dropped his putt. After a short period of negotiations and after a total of 7 holes of playoff golf the 2009 Warrior Co-Champions were crowned. The Co-Champions for 2009 are: "Boar Pig Cancer Fighting Golf Team" and "Greater Insurance Service". Both teams graciously donated their winnings back to the DRHS Activities program making it two years in a row where the Scramble champions donated their winnings back to the program!
