Thank you to the DRHS Student Council for their work on our new DRHS Logo.  Thank you also to the students, staff, and community members that took their time to vote on the four options.

The winning design (voted by students, staff, and community) was created by long-time DRHS Art Instructor Dennis Peterson.  Here's what Mr. Peterson had to say about his design:

The idea for the logo and School Spirit Staff came to me as I was researching ideas of a logo from Native American symbols.  The logo with the Warrior "W" and the School Spirit Staff across it is all lone idea.  The idea of the School Spirit Staff is that it could be a very special honor presented to a team or individual who has done something extraordinary or is getting ready to compete on a very high level (Regions, State, World).   The staff could be presented by an individual or group (possibly a Native Elder) in the community or school at a pep fest prior to the event.  It could then travel to the event with the team or individual or remain here at DR.   After the event the results (win or lose) could be placed on the staff as in military campaign ribbons and over time the staff would grow FULL of ribbons of great accomplishments by Deer River HS students and maybe even staff (teacher of the year, etc.)  The staff would be kept in a place of honor on exhibit for all to see."
