1. Have a great summer! Just a reminder that today is an early out!

2. Dress Code: Students are not allowed to wear backless, low cut, or off shoulder shirts, tube tops, midriff shirts, see-through, or excessively tight clothing. No clothing with revealing holes or cutouts is allowed. Underclothing, including bra straps and briefs, should not be visible. No cleavage. Students who violate this policy will be sent home.

3. Students who rented locks from the school can turn them in to Theresa before school, during lunch hours, and after school.

4. Reminder: Today is the last day to get your 2010 yearbook. Cost is $60.00 and checks need to be made out to ISD #317. If you can’t afford a book at this time, talk to Brenda – the yearbook advisor – about putting one away to purchase later.

5. The newest overdue library list is posted; check to see if your book has magically been returned. Otherwise bring it in and get a Jolly Rancher. If you can’t find it, it’s time to either buy us a new book or pay the $20 fine. The list is getting shorter, and that’s good news!

6. The Boys & Girls Club and the Athletic Program of Deer River is putting on a fundraising event on June 17th at 7:00 p.m. at the High School. A team made up of Deer River, Grand Rapids, and Bigfork alumni will be playing the Streetball Live All Star Team. Streetball Live is today’s Harlem Globetrotters and have been seen on ESPN. Please come cheer on our alumni and support the Boys & Girls Club and the Deer River Athletic Department.

7. Happy Birthday to all students and staff who have birthdays during the summer months!

Athletic/Activities Information:

1. Congratulations to the Baseball team for defeating the Chisholm Bluestreaks last night 14-1 in 5 innings. Eythan Stangland was the winning pitcher allowing 3 hits and striking out 5 and Travis Kane pitched the last one and two-thirds inning. Cole Knudson was two for three with three RBI’s and Cody Willis and Damon Benham had two hits each and two runs scored and Jack Carter had a two run double.

2. Attention JV and Varsity Football Players: The first minicamp will be held this Monday evening, 7:00 to 8:30. It will be held on the practice field.

3. Football cheerleading practice will be held today after school until 3:15 p.m. Tryout will then be held at 3:30 p.m.

4. Volleyball players who have ordered shoes and wish to have them for summer should pick them up today from Mrs. Boyum-Erzar. You need to have paid for them, checks to The Athletes Foot for $76.00.

5. JO volleyball players who have not turned in the red jerseys for 18’s team and the black jerseys for the 14’s teams please do so today.

6. Any student that has not turned in locks or taken their personal locks off lockers in the locker rooms need to turn them in to their respective teachers – Mrs. Boyum-Erzar or Mr. Dahlberg by the end of the day.

7. Event for today:
Baseball vs. Albrook at Hermantown 4:30 p.m. Team leaving at 12:30 p.m.
- If team wins against Albrook they will play the winner between Nashwauk and Remer at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

1. There will be a softball meeting today during advisory in the commons.

2. There will be a meeting in Coach Marleau’s room today for 7th and 8th grade football players during advisory.

3. At the final round of the Section 7A Golf Tournament, Becca Rudquist finished in 2nd overall and qualified for the State Tournament, June 16-17. Andrea Vickerman finished in 9th, just 4 strokes from earning a trip to state. Seventh grader Jacob Starck was the surprise of the squad, shooting a second round 86 and finishing 18th overall. Travis Croaker finished 22nd, Alyis Grauman 28th, Derick Mauser 33rd, and Kolby Kruger 42nd

4. The “Pop Tab” winners for 4th quarter was Mrs. Braukmann’s class with 2 ¾ lbs., 2nd place went to Mrs. Wakefield’s class with 1 ½ lbs., and 3rd place to Ms. Hostetler’s class with ¾ lbs. Deer River High School has sent down 37 lbs. to the Ronald McDonald house this year. Thanks to all who have contributed to this wonderful cause. Remember to save the tabs over the summer. 1. The Warrior baseball team won their fifth straight game last night defeating Cook/Orr 12-5 in Cook. Kenny Benham led the Warrior hitters going four for four with two runs scored and three RBI’s. Jack Carter was two for two with three RBI’s. Damon Benham, Cole Knudson, Luke Benson, and Cody Willis also had hits. Travis Kane was the winning pitcher scattering six hits while striking out 11 and walking one. The B squad won 12-0 behind the one hit pitching of Jack Carter who also had a home run.

2. Attention Girls Basketball: There will be a summer organizational meeting during advisory today for all 7 – 11 graders in Coach Marleau’s room.

Luke Benson led the hitters going three for four with a double and three RBI’s. Ty Vickerman was two for two, scored two runs and stole four bases. Cole Knudson, Kenny Benham, Cody Willis, Damon Benham, and Travis Schultz all had hits for the Warriors. The B squad won 10-1 behind the pitching of Damon Benham.

There may also be a stipend for students participating in this program.

1. SENIORS: Graduation practice will be Wednesday, June 2nd at 1:00 p.m. This is mandatory.

2. Dress Code: Students are not allowed to wear backless, low cut, or off shoulder shirts, tube tops, midriff shirts, see-through, or excessively tight clothing. No clothing with revealing holes or cutouts is allowed. Underclothing, including bra straps and briefs, should not be visible. No cleavage. Students who violate this policy will be sent home.

The following seniors need to see Mr. Hermel as they owe money for the Senior DVD: Natasha Jenkins, Aspen Marleau, Alicia Heide, Ashlee Geving, Andrea Vickerman, Brice Giffen, Michaela Herfindahl, Shawna Nelson, Jenna Jurvelin, Kenny Benham, Michelle Tangness, Leah Benham, Kenzie Wilson, Aundria Sobolik, Alyis Grauman, Mindy Drotts, Kaylina Paulley, Tyler Moehling, Dylan Olson, and Cody Kuck.

The Indian Education Department and Indian Education Parent Committee will be hosting this celebration. Native American students and their parents who are planning to attend should RSVP to Tammy Hammerlund in Indian Education.

Athletic/Activities Information:

1. The Warrior baseball team handed state ranked Ely its first loss in Section play and second of the season as they defeated the Timberwolves 13-3 in five innings yesterday in Deer River. Travis Kane and Luke Benson each went three for four at the plate with a double and two RBI’s. Ty Vickerman, Cole Knudson, Cody Willis, Damon Benham, and Jack Carter all had hits. Nick Schimek scored three runs for the Warriors. Eight different players had RBI’s including one each by Kenny Benham and Eythan Stangland. Luke Benson pitched the first 3 1/3 innings and Travis Kane pitched the final inning and 2/3. The Warrior B Squad was also successful as the Warriors defeated the Wolves 10-0 in Cohasset behind the no hit pitching of Lance Latvala.

2. B squad baseball players can pick up their pictures from Mr. Erzar.

3. There will be a wrestling meeting during advisory tomorrow in the Auto Shop room.

Athletic/Activities Information:

1. Last night the Warrior Golf teams completed their regular season play with a final Northern Pines Conference match at Castle Highlands Golf Course in Bemidji. The boys team finished fourth in last night’s match and finished the season fourth overall in the conference. Travis Croaker, Derick Mauser, and Eastan Marleau all tied for the best scores for the team. Eastan Marleau earned All-Conference Honors finishing in 6th place for the year.

The girls ended the year with a convincing 12 stroke victory, winning their fifth of six conference meets making them the Northern Pines Conference Champions. Congratulations girls!! Becca Rudquist finished 1st overall on the night and for the third straight year ended the season as the Conference Champion. Raylene Smith and Emily Rudquist also received All-Conference Honors finishing 6th and 5th respectively. The rest of the team – Michaela Herfindahl, Andrea Vickerman, Allison Deters, and Hannah Villenueve all contributed to this year’s success.

2. There will be a mandatory football meeting during advisory today for all 9 – 12th graders who will be playing this fall. The meeting will be held in Coach Marleau’s room.

3. The Warrior baseball team won a pair of games yesterday defeating Northland 9-4 in Remer and then they defeated Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 16-3 in 5 innings in Cohasset. In the first game, Luke Benson went three for four at the plate with four RBI’s and Kenny Benham was two for four with two RBI’s to pace the Warriors at the plate. Ty Vickerman, Cole Knudson, Cody Willis and Damon Benham each had a hit and Travis Kane scored two runs. Eythan Stangland was the winning pitcher throwing 4 1/3 innings. Travis Kane picked up the save in relief and did not allow a run in the final 2 2/3 innings. In Cohasset, the Warriors pounded out 15 hits lead by Luke Benson with three, Kenny Benham, Cody Willis, and Eythan Stangland with two, and hits from, Ty Vickerman, Eric Lind, Lance Latvala, Travis Schultz, and Damon Benham. Travis Kane, Luke Benson, and Cody Willis had three RBI’s each. The Warriors play Ely at home tonight at 4:30 PM in an important Subsection 7A game.
