Friday, January 30th

1. Today is an EARLY OUT – students will be dismissed 1:15 p.m.

2. Today is your last chance to be a part of something special, The Blood-Drive!! We are in need of 14 more donors and several alternates to fill in. Seriously, it is a great feeling to give rather than receive. Three people’s lives may be saved by your donation. If you have reservations about it talk to a friend who has already given. Once again the sign-up sheet is on the high school office service counter. Thanks and have a good day!

3. Teen Night at the Methodist Church will be today from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

4. FCCLA MEMBERS: A REMINDER that we have concessions TONIGHT! Please see Mrs. Passeri about the schedule; we need EVERYONE to work a shift!!

5. AR awards are rescheduled for Monday, during advisory in the old gym.

6. There will be a speech meeting in Mrs. Felosi’s room during advisory on Monday.

7. There will be a Grade 10-12 ETS meeting on Monday during advisory in the Boys & Girls Club room.

8. Change of Meeting: Due to the girl’s basketball game Monday the 2nd the Close Up meeting will be Tuesday the 3rd at 5:30 in the commons.

10. Seniors who have submitted photos for the yearbook can pick them up in Ms. Bennett’s room any time.

11. SnoBall Week is Feb. 9 – 13! The dance is the 13th from 9-Midnight. All Grades welcome! More info to come!

12. The Itasca County Family YMCA will be having a Sweet Hearts Dance on Friday, February 13th from 7-10pm for all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students! The cost will be $5.00 per student or $3.00 if you bring a non-perishable food item. More information to come later so mark your calendars!

1. Any girl planning to play softball this spring MUST sign up in the office. There will be a softball meeting during advisory on Friday, Feb. 6. If you are not signed up, you will not be allowed to attend.

2. Attention FOOTBALL PLAYERS: Any 9-11th grader who will play football next year and needs to order their jerseys should stop by and pick a number at Coach Marleau’s room (218) by today. You must make a down payment at that time of $50. Any senior who would like to play college football next year and isn’t already setup, feel free to stop by to talk to me. I have been contacted by some college coaches.

2. Congratulations to the 7th grade “Students of the Quarter”: Vanessa Perrington (Social Studies), Holli Hemphill (English), Cori Bruers (Math), and Kerri Humble (Science). Keep up the Great work!

3. There will be a Grade 10-12 ETS meeting on Monday during advisory in the Boys & Girls Club room.

1. The skiers competed yesterday against Bemidji, Brainerd, Grand Rapids, Fergus Falls, Detroit Lakes and Northwest Home School. It was a very successful day for the Deer River Skiers. Ribbons went to the top ten finishers. The placing was as follows:
- Boys Varsity after two 5 km races: Cody Gustafson-21st
- Girls Varsity after two 5 km races: Mindy Drotts-3rd
- Boy’s JV-4.2 km race: Ryan Juntunen -8th, Dale Cook -10th, Derick Mauser -11th, Matteo Volpini -18th

2. There will be an YLVC meeting today from 9:00-10:00 a.m. in the conference room. Teachers please release the following YLVC members: Eva Gardner, Liz Anttila, Erica Harrison, Sky Mainville, Rachel Doughman, Tashina Grauman, and Nora Pederson. All members are to attend.

3. There will be a Campus Life Mission Trip meeting during advisory today in Mr. Carlstrom’s room.

4. The AR awards will not be held today. They will be rescheduled.

2. Students who have “Senior First” are to sign in at the office when coming to school in the morning, and those who have “Senior 7” are to sign out before leaving for the day.

3. There will be an ETS meeting for grades 8-9 during Advisory in the Boys & Girls Club room on Monday.

4. There will be an ACT prep for ETS Juniors in room 212 at 5:30 on Monday, January 26. Pizza will be provided. Bring your own beverage.

1. Happy Paraprofessional Recognition Week! Make sure to thank our Paraprofessionals for all their hard work and dedication!

2. SnoBall Week is Feb. 9 – 13! The dance is the 13th from 9-Midnight. All Grades welcome! More info to come!

3. Speech team: If you are interested in going to the Grand Rapids tournament this Saturday as either a participant or an observer, please sign up with Mrs. Felosi or Ms. Bennett today!!!

4. FCCLA MEMBERS: We will meet TODAY during advisory. ALL members are expected to attend.

5. There will be an 8th-9th grade ETS meeting on Monday, January 26th during advisory in the Boys & Girls Club room.

6. There will be a NHS meeting on Friday during advisory in Mr. Houdek’s room.

7. Lots of notebooks and course books have been left in the Media Center. If you’re missing something, check the pile next to the copy machine in the Media Center.

8. Attention 7-12 grade ETS Students: If you are interested in attending TRIO day at St. Scholastica on Saturday, February 28th please stop and see Lael in the commons during advisory to pick up a permission slip! This field trip includes a college fair and two speakers. All expenses paid.

9. Campus Life Dodge ball Tournament on Saturday – It will be a community wide event with all ages encouraged to participate. Contact Heather Schjenken at 246-9330 by Wednesday. The cost will be $5.00 per person and will include a sloppy joe.

10. An Introduction to Ojibwe Language, History and Culture class will be offered for 9-12th grade students 5th hour during semester two. This class will be in the ITV room and focus on the Ojibwe language. Additionally, history of the Ojibwe will be covered along with discussions on the culture of the Ojibwe and Ojibwe Quiz Bowl topics. Please sign up with Mrs. Grossell in the high school office, there is a limit of 10 students.

11. The Blood Drive will be February 4th. We are doing an all day drive and we need 75 donors! Sign up now on the office counter or talk to the Blood Drive Team.

12. The Itasca County Family YMCA will be having a Sweet Hearts Dance on Friday, February 13th from 7-10pm for all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students! The cost will be $5.00 per student or $3.00 if you bring a non-perishable food item. More information to come later so mark your calendars!

1. The ski team had an excellent day in Fergus Falls yesterday competing against Bemidji, Brainerd, Fergus Falls and Detroit Lakes. The top three finishers in each race brought home medals, and the skiers in places 4-10 were awarded ribbons. The skiers placed as follows:

5. Attention FOOTBALL PLAYERS:

- Any 9-11th grader who will play football next year and needs to order their jerseys should stop by and pick a number at Coach Marleau’s room (218) by January 30th. You must make a down payment at that time of $50.
- Any senior who would like to play college football next year and isn’t already setup, feel free to stop by to talk to me. I have been contacted by some college coaches.

-Best Buy – 9th-12th grade students can apply. Good grades, volunteer community service. Application/information available at www.bestbuy.com/scholarships. Deadline is February 15, 2009.

-Darla Scales – $750 scholarship for a student planning to go into an educational office career.

-MN Telecom Alliance Foundation – $2000, requires GPA, community service, school involvement, and essay. Deadline is February 6, 2009. www.mnta.org

-Radio Broadcasting and Music Scholarships – amount varies – deadline for Radio Broadcast – February 1st (must have audition recording) Music – March 1st (must audition)

1. Congratulations to Mrs. Teff’s advisory class for bringing in the most pop tabs for quarter two – 3 ¾ pounds. Second place went to Mrs. Wakefield’s advisory class with 3 pounds. A total of 9 ½ pounds of pop tabs were turned in. Thanks everyone!

1. At half-time of tonight’s Varsity Boys’ Basketball game with Cass Lake/Bena, the O-Gitch-I-Dah Club is sponsoring a “Pop Shoot Around.” For $1.00 donation, you will be able to shoot a free throw for the chance to win pop. Funds are being raised for travel for the club. Participants will be asked to take off their shoes so that the game court stays clean and dry for the rest of the game.

ICC staff will be presenting on the financial aid process and parents/students will be given an opportunity to start/complete FAFSA applications.
