Friday, May 29th

1. HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER!!

2. Graduation is Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

3. Students: If you have not received your schedule for next year, please see Theresa in the office.

4. A notice to all Phy-Ed students that still have locks and clothes in your lockers. Please turn in your locks today to Mrs. Boyum-Erzar or Mr. Dahlberg. Those having lost your lock will be charged a replacement fee. Any clothing left behind will be removed and tossed.

5. Student Council is selling the new mascot t-shirts for $10.00. There are a limited amount of shirts, so see Mr. Carlstrom ASAP!

6. Leech Lake Tribal College is sponsoring a National Summer Transportation Institute for students who will be entering grades 8-10. This will be a 4 week summer day camp. Dates are June 15-July 10. The NSTI will expose students to new career opportunities in the transportation industry through classroom instruction and fun field trips. There are 20 full-tuition scholarships available for students. Applications must be completed by June 1st. See Mrs. Moll for an application or you can contact Roselyn Jones (218.335.4270) or Juanita Wiley (218.335.4279) at LLTC for more information.

7. Summer Youth Employment with ISD #317 – Custodial duties – must be a graduating senior – apply in the District Office – $6.55 per hour.

8. Happy Birthday to all students having a birthday over summer break!!

Activity/Athletic Information

1. Congratulations to the Baseball team as they beat Carlton 4-1 and then Cook County 6-5 in the third game of the Section 7A playoffs. Dane was the winning pitcher in the first game and struck out 6. Luke Benson was the winning pitcher in the second game and he allowed only 4 hits and was 3 for 4 at the plate with two doubles. The next playoff game is June 2nd at 2:00 p.m. in Hermantown.

2. Golfers: pick up your clubs in the storage room or connect with Mr. Hermel to get them.

3. Football Party: The football party will be today periods 7 and lunch (11:30 – 12:40) in Coach Marleau’s room. Students must check in with their 7th hour teacher before going to Mr. Marleau’s room. We will be eating pizza and watching the highlight film. Cost for pizza is $5 for those who were not on the winning gold card team (Coach Fairbank’s Team which is listed below). Coach Fairbanks Team: Pat Evans, Ethan Grossell, David Ortloff, Jeff Wilson, Kenny Benham, Tyler Moehling, Jacob Villeneuve, Jesse Grife, Bryce Lyytinen, Bert Smith, Jack Carter, Dustin Vickerman, and Allen Huju.

4. FOOTBALL HIGHLIGHT VIDEO: Anyone who would like to purchase a 2008 football highlights video the cost is $5:00. We will be making copies today.

5. 2009 DRHS Warrior Golf Scramble Fundraiser – Saturday, June 27, 2009. For more information: www.isd317.org/golf or call 218.259.3129 Registration deadline is Friday, June 19th and open to the first 32 teams signed up.

6. Any student in grades 7-12 interested in joining the bowling team, please sign up in the office. Sign-ups will be taken through today. Practice will begin in late August with the exact time to be determined. If you have questions, please call Coach Vic Machen at 246-2402 or 244-5808.

Thursday, May 28th

1. Graduation is Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

2. No “After School” lunch line for the rest of the week.

3. The 4th quarter pop tab contest winners are Mrs. Salisbury’s advisory class. They brought in 5 ¼ lbs. of pop tabs. 2nd place goes to Mrs. Sheppard’s class with 4 ¾ lbs. Thanks to all that participated in the contest. 36 ¾ lbs. will be sent to the Ronald McDonald House. Save those tabs this summer and bring them back to school in the fall for the 1st quarter contest. Have a great summer!

4. All 2008-2009 FCCLA members are to see Eva or Mrs. Passeri by 3:15 today. It is very important as we decide our plans for this summer.

(2) TEENS: The only time that you can be at Boys & Girls Club is from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 3:15 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday’s. Students who are unable to follow these rules will lose their privileges and will be required to leave the High School premises after 3:30 p.m.

1. There will be a Boys Basketball meeting today during advisory in Mr. Anderson’s room.

3. The Warrior baseball team opened the Section playoff with a 2-0 win over Cook-Orr in Cohasset yesterday. Travis Kane pitched a complete game three hit shutout and struck out six. Bryce Lyytinen had a key RBI single for the Warriors in the fourth inning against one of the best pitchers in the Section. The Warriors would like to thank all of the fans for their support at yesterday’s game. The crowd was tremendous. The Warriors will take on Carlton at 2:00 PM today in Hermantown. The game will be broadcast on KMFY. If the Warriors win, they will play another game at 7:30 p.m.

1. Seniors: Graduation practice (mandatory) will be held today at 10:00 a.m. in the old west gym. It will take about an hour which will include paying any fines, locker check, & senior survey. Thank You, Mr. Colligan.

2. Graduation is Sunday, May 31st at 2:00 p.m.

11. It’s not too late to get your DRHS Yearbook. There are still yearbooks available for purchase in Ms. Bennett’s room. The cost is $65.00 each. Bring cash or check to get your copy of the 2009 annual. They will be on sale through today…or until they run out.

3. The Warrior baseball team defeated the Ely Timberwolves 12-5 Friday night in Ely to end the regular season with a 16-4 record and winning 14 of their last 15 games. Dane Heig was the winning pitcher and didn’t allow any earned runs and struck out eight. Cole Knudson and Luke Benson were both 4 for 5 at the plate. Luke and Gary Perrington drove in four runs each. Gary and Travis Kane had two hits each. Travis and Cole scored three runs each and Tyler Erzar scored two. The Warriors have set a new school record for runs scored with 202. The old record was by the 1998 team with 180 runs.

4. The Warrior B squad won their game over Ely by a score of 14-1 and finished their season with a perfect 14-0 record. It is the second year in a row that the B squad has gone undefeated!! Great job guys!!!

Dane Heig was the winning pitcher and didn’t allow any earned runs and struck out eight. Cole Knudson and Luke Benson were both 4 for 5 at the plate. Luke and Gary Perrington drove in four runs each. Gary and Travis Kane had two hits each. Travis and Cole scored three runs each and Tyler Erzar scored two. The Warriors have set a new school record for runs scored with 202. The old record was by the 1998 team with 180 runs.

4. The Warrior B squad won their game over Ely by a score of 14-1 and finished their season with a perfect 14-0 record. It is the second year in a row that the B squad has gone undefeated!! Great job guys!!!

5. Football Cheerleading sign up will be extended until 1st hr. on Thursday. If there is not enough numbers for a squad, the program will be eliminated. Sign up’s will be open for all girls from this year’s 7th to 11th grade. There will be a meeting for the girls that sign up during advisory on Thursday in the Commons.

1. Seniors: Graduation practice (mandatory) will be held on Wednesday, May 27th at 10:00 a.m. in the old west gym. It will take about an hour which will include paying any fines, locker check, & senior survey. Thank You, Mr. Colligan.

2. Graduation will be Sunday, May 31st at 2:00 p.m.

3. Come and view a “Mini Art Show” in the art room. The show will run today and tomorrow. Students may pick up their art works and take them home Friday afternoon.

4. Thank you to all of the teens who helped at the King School on Monday. The King and North kids and teachers were really impressed! You guys were great!

5. Leech Lake Tribal College is sponsoring a National Summer Transportation Institute for students who will be entering grades 8-10. This will be a 4 week summer day camp. Dates are June 15-July 10. The NSTI will expose students to new career opportunities in the transportation industry through classroom instruction and fun field trips. There are 20 full-tuition scholarships available for students. Applications must be completed by June 1st. See Mrs. Moll for an application or you can contact Roselyn Jones (218.335.4270) or Juanita Wiley (218.335.4279) at LLTC for more information.

6. It’s not too late to get your DRHS Yearbook. There are still yearbooks available for purchase in Ms. Bennett’s room. The cost is $65.00 each. Bring cash or check to get your copy of the 2009 annual. They will be on sale until the Wednesday, May 27th…or until they run out.

1. The Warrior baseball team defeated Cook/Orr yesterday by a score of 14-0 in five innings. Ty Vickerman led the Warriors in hitting going two for three with a triple and two runs scored. Gary Perrington and Cole Knudson had two RBI’s each. Tyler Erzar had five stolen bases and scored three runs. Dane Heig also scored a couple runs. The Warriors have won thirteen of the last fourteen games. The B team also won, outscoring Cook/Orr 27-3. Tyler Moehling and Cody Willis each hit a home run to pace the hitting.

2. The Letterwinners Banquet will be held tonight starting at 6:30 p.m. There is no charge for Letterwinners and their coaches to attend. However, they must pick up a ticket for the meal at the door of the banquet. The charge for family & friends to eat is $10. Tickets are on sale tonight at the door. There will be no presale of tickets this year. All Letterwinners are encouraged to attend. The list of this year’s letterwinners is posted on the bulletin board in the high school lobby. 1. On Monday five Warrior Golfers qualified to play in the second round of the Section 7A golf tournament next Tuesday, May 26th. Each of these five has a chance to advance to the State Tournament in June. The five are: Travis Croaker, Eastan Marleau, Derick Mauser, Becca Rudquist, and Emily Rudquist. Congratulations and good luck next week!

2. The Warrior baseball team defeated the Mountain Iron Buhl Rangers last night 16-5 in five innings. Luke Benson was three for four with three RBI’s, Kenny Benham was two for two with a triple, three runs scored, and three RBI’s and Bryce Lyytinen was two for three with four RBI’s. Dane Heig had two hits and Gary Perrington scored three runs. Tyler Erzar was the winning pitcher allowing only four hits while walking five and striking out four. The Warriors are now 14-4.

3. The B squad also won by an unbelievable score of 31-0 and upped their record to 12-0. Over twenty batters hit for the Warriors in the bottom of the first inning. Jack Carter was four for four at the plate and Cody Willis pitched a shutout striking out nine batters.

2. The Warriors JH baseball team defeated Cass Lake/Bena 17-4 in 4 innings on Friday night. Lance Latvala, Henry Hellmann, and Brandon Schaar all saw time on the mound and combined for the victory. Offensively the Warriors were lead by Jace Swanson who went 3-4 scoring 3 runs driving in 3 and stealing a base. Brandon Schaar was 2-2 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, and 3 RBI. Lance Latvala was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Sammy Stangland capped off the night with a 2 run home run. The victory moves the Warriors record to 8-0 with two more games coming up on Tuesday.

Luke Benson was the winning pitcher going the distance allowing only four hits while striking out six and walking six. Luke and Tyler Erzar had two hits each. Luke, Dane Heig, and Bryce Lyytinen had two RBI’s each. Tyler and Cody Willis scored two runs each and Tyler and Gary Perrington had three stolen bases. The win gives the Warriors eleven wins in their last twelve games and a 13-4 record. The Warriors play MIB tonight at home at 4:30 PM.

1. FCCLA members are out and about letting you know how important driving is. You may notice a few new posters around the school. Take the time to look at them and read how fatal driving can be when not done right. Today there will be two guests here to tell their story of how improper driving affected their lives. They will talk about the consequences that driving impaired can have on a family and how sometimes the people closest to you are taken away much too soon. Have a great week and remember to buckle up! It’s the law!!

1. The boys golf team finished 5th at their last conference meet and 5th overall for the season. Eastan Marleau shot a 41 to jump him from 11th place to 8th place in the conference earning him 2nd Team All Conference honors.

2. The Warriors JH baseball team hosted Grand Rapids in a double header last night. The Warriors won both games, 6-5 and 10-2, pushing their record to 7-0. Auggie Marleau picked up the win on the mound in game one. Auggie pitched a complete game allowing three earned runs and striking out five. Jace Swanson led the offense in game one going 2-3 with a double, 2 RBI, and 1 run scored. In game two, Sammy Stangland picked up the win. Sammy also threw a complete game giving up one earned run and striking out seven. Henry Hellmann led the offense in game two going 3-3 with a triple 3 runs scored, 2 stolen bases, and an RBI. Lane Parks was 2-3 with a double 2 runs scored and an RBI. Noah Kaczor was 2-3 with a double a run scored and an RBI, Sammy Stangland was 2-3 and Auggie Marleau was 1-2 with a triple 2 runs scored, 2 RBI and a stolen bases. The Warriors JH travels to Cass Lake tonight to take on the Panthers and plays Floodwood on Saturday in the first game of the Deer River Invitational JH tournament.

3. The Warrior baseball team defeated Walker-Hackensack-Akeley last night in Akeley by a score of 10-5 winning for the tenth time in the last eleven games. Kenny Benham was the winning pitcher throwing 6 1/3 innings and allowing only five hits. Tyler Erzar pitched the final 2/3 of an inning. Tyler, Kenny, Cole Knudson, and Thomas Schultz had two hits each. Tyler had three RBI’s. Tyler had a double and triple while Kenny, Luke Benson, Thomas, and Ty Vickeman had doubles. The B squad remained unbeaten with a 17-0 win over WHA. Wyatt Klegstad had two home runs and Damon Benham also had one. Jack Carter was four for four at the plate.
