Wednesday, September 30th

1. There will be a mandatory Junior Class meeting on Friday during advisory in Mrs. Evans’ room.

2. Attention Seniors – October 2nd through October 13th – there will be senior meetings in Mrs. Moll’s office. Please check Mrs. Moll’s door for your meeting time. If your scheduled time does not work, please let Mrs. Moll know before your scheduled meeting.

3. Any 8th or 9th grade student, who wants to be a Homecoming candidate, must see Ms. Smith-Evans today.

4. Life Sports students will be taking their second field trip today to the Blueberry Golf Course. Students are to be released at 12:00 to go to the commons for lunch.

5. The following NHS students need to see Mrs. Braukmann sometime today: Emily Emerson, Cody Gustafson, Thomas Schultz, Annalee Sundin, Michaela Herfindahl, Derick Mauser, Ty Vickerman, and Kari DeYoung.

6. Auditions for the school play will be held today and tomorrow during advisory and after school tomorrow in the choir room. Please contact Mr. Thurm for schedule and details.

7. There will be an O-Gitch-I-Dah meeting today during advisory in the Commons. All students wanting to join O-Gitch-I-Dah should plan to attend this meeting. We will be nominating for officers at this time. Please be on time!

8. There will be a Student Council meeting tomorrow during advisory in Mrs. Felosi’s room.

9. There will be a Senior Class meeting tomorrow during advisory in the Commons.

Athletic/Activities Information:

1. There will be an informational meeting in the Commons today at 3:30 p.m. for any girls in grades 7-12 interested in joining Boys’ Basketball cheerleading.

Monday through Thursday 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Tuesday through Thursday 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday & Thursday 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Junior/Senior/Scholarship Information:

1. $500-$1,000 scholarships available to seniors. History buff? Enjoy politics? The Washington Crossing Foundation offers scholarships to seniors. All information and applications available at www.gwcf.org or call 215-949-8841. The deadline is January 15th.

2. ACLU scholarships – are you a student activist? ACLU awards 15 – $7,000 scholarships. www.aclu-mn.org

3. John F. Kennedy – Profile in Courage Essay Contest. High School students in grades 9-12. $5000 scholarship. Complete guidelines available at www.jfklibrary.org

4. Most Valuable Student Scholarship – Elks National Foundation will award 18 top scholarships ranging from $8,000 to $60,000 over four years. Runners-up will receive 482 – $4,000 scholarships. Available to High School Seniors – Deadline is November 2nd. Applications are available at www.elks.org/enf/scholars

5. AXA Achievement Scholarship – $10,000 or $250,000 scholarships available. Have you been a community leader? Have you led a project that benefits others? Have you overcome personal challenges? Learn more and download an application at: www.axa-achievement.com. The deadline is December 15th.

6. The PSAT test will be given at Deer River High School on Wednesday, October 14th. The test will start at 8:30 and finish around 12:30. 9. Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Seminar. The cost of attendance for the seminar is $150.00. DRHS is invited to nominate one outstanding sophomore to the HOBY Leadership Seminar. If you would like to be considered for this nomination, please return a current Student Data Form to Mrs. Moll in the counseling office.

Tuesday, September 29th

1. There will be ACT practice for ETS seniors retaking the ACT this fall today at 3:30 in Room 212.

2. A NHS meeting will be held in Mrs. Braukmann’s room today. All NHS members (including new members who were inducted last spring) should plan to attend. We will be holding nominations and voting for President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer at the time. Nominees must be present to accept nominations.

3. There will be a 9th grade ETS meeting today during advisory in the Boys & Girls Club room.

1. BACK TO SCHOOL DANCE!! Tonight – 8:30-11:30. Don’t forget your picture ID’s … or it will cost you more to get in to the dance! Grades 7-12 are welcome to attend. See you there!

4. FCCLA MEMBERS: Kelsey from Goodhue will be here today after school to share her FCCLA experiences as a State Officer, National STAR Event Advancer, and National Officer Candidate. Anyone interested in joining us in Mrs. Passeri’s room are welcome to stop by for an informal get together. See Mrs. Passeri for more details!!

3. This year Deer River High School is offering a discount 10-ticket event pass instead of season passes. By buying this pass, you save 30% on the cost of tickets. This pass may be used for any regular Deer River home sporting event–volleyball, football, basketball, and wrestling. It cannot be used for playoff games. If you want to take advantage of this savings, the tickets are on sale at all of the home sporting events.

2. The ninth grade class officers for this year are President Kevin Drotts, Vice President Emily Trout, Secretary Jace Swanson, and Treasurer Caitlyn Wilson.

3. FCCLA MEMBERS should see Mrs. Passeri during Advisory TODAY.

Students will NOT be admitted without proper identification; student id’s will be checked at the door. Students without a photo id will pay $3 extra!! Last years’ school id may be used for this first dance of the year. If you are planning to bring a guest to the dance, your guest must have a Guest Contract [available in the office] on file and approved by Mr. Schimek by Wednesday after school.

2. There will be a Golf meeting on Wednesday, September 23rd. Please sign up on Mr. Hermel’s door if you are interested in going out for golf.

3. This year Deer River High School is offering a discount 10-ticket event pass instead of season passes. By buying this pass, you save 30% on the cost of tickets. This pass may be used for any regular Deer River home sporting event–volleyball, football, basketball, and wrestling. It cannot be used for playoff games. If you want to take advantage of this savings, the tickets are on sale at all of the home sporting events.
