Monday, November 30th

1. REMINDER: Friday, December 4th is an early out. School will be dismissed at 1:15 p.m.

2. There will be a 12th grade ETS meeting today.

3. There will be a 7th grade ETS meeting on Wednesday in the Boys & Girls Club room.

4. There will be a 9th grade ETS meeting tomorrow in the Boys & Girls Club room.

5. American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program. Awards of up to $18,000 at the national level. Students must be in grades 9-12. Must prepare oration and discourse on an assigned topic relating to the basic principles of government under the Constitution. See Mrs. Moll for more information.

6. You can work miracles by donating blood. It’s safe, it’s simple, and it saves lives. One donation saves up to three lives! The School Blood Drive will be on Thursday. Any sixteen year old can donate if you are five feet tall and at least 130 pounds. Be sure to grab the parental consent form from the office. The signup sheet is on the office service counter.

7. Remember to purchase your yearbooks before time runs out! Order forms can be found on the office service counter. Checks are to be made out to ISD #317. Turn order forms in to the office or with yearbook advisor, Brenda Lang.

8. The Deer River Boys and Girls Club are changing their schedule. Starting today the schedule will be as follows: Monday’s and Tuesday’s – 3:15-6:00 (K-6th grade); 6:00-8:00 p.m. (Teens), Wednesday’s – 3:15 – 8:00 p.m. (Teens); Thursday’s – 3:15 – 6:00 p.m. (K-6th grade); and, Friday’s – 3:15 – 6:00 p.m. (K-6th grade).

9. Open Library is taking on a new look for December. We will be creating an “Internet Cafe” atmosphere. We will have cappuccino for sale, and you will be allowed to do social networking and play games, as long as language and pictures are school appropriate. Hoping to see you, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-4:30.

1. Lake Superior College will be visiting DRHS on December 10th at 10:15 a.m. Sign up on Mrs. Moll’s door to meet with the LSC representative.

2. AXA Achievement Community Scholarship – $2000 scholarship awards for seniors who have ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, ability to succeed in college. 3. Alpha Kappa Psi Scholarship Fund. Majoring in Business and the University of MN, Twin Cities. Scholarship worth up to $20,000. Deadline for application is January 29, 2010. More information about AKPsi can be found at [Link]www.akpsionline.com

4. KFC Scholarship – awards up to $20,000 scholarship for seniors who: have 2.75 or higher gpa, pursue 4 yr. degree at public college, have financial need. Online application begins December 1 and ends Feb. 10, 2010. Online application available at [Link] www.kfcscholars.org.
