Thursday, May 7th
1. Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! “Teacher’s appreciate being appreciated, for teacher appreciation is their highest award.” – William Prince. Please make sure to thank your teachers today!
2. School will be dismissed at 1:15 p.m. TOMORROW.
3. There will be meeting for ALL students who attended the State History Day competition last weekend in Ms. Evans room during advisory today!
4. There will be an ART CLUB meeting today during advisory in the art room.
5. Seniors attending the class trip need to turn in permission slips to Mr. Hermel by tomorrow!!! Remember that the bus will be leaving at 6AM on Monday morning. Please be on time.
6. The ten year senior capsule is still taking things until tomorrow
7. Due to the early out tomorrow, Teen Night at the Methodist Church tomorrow will be from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
8. All NHS people need to see Mr. Houdek as soon as possible.
9. The following students have requested books that are now available in the Media Center: Libby Cable, Allison Deters, Amy Shearer, Miranda Bowstring, Geezis Humphrey, and Sophia Pehrson.
10. LINK Crew applications are on Mrs. Smith-Evans’ door. Completed applications are due tomorrow!
11. Seniors going on the Senior Class trip need to have their PERMISSION slips turned in tomorrow to Mr. Hermel in order to attend the trip.
12. Reminder to seniors: During senior first and senior seventh you are to be out of the building unless a teacher is responsible for you (homework, make-up work, etc.). It should not be a time of wondering and/or using cell phones in the building. Please be respectful for the instructional time of all the other students.
13. SENIORS: A $500 Financial Literacy Scholarship is available to one DRHS Senior that has taken Family Financial Education [last year] or this years’ Money Matters Class. See Mrs. Moll or Mrs. Passeri for an application. Deadline is Friday. The scholarship will be announced at the Awards Program on May 13th. ONLY SENIORS can apply for this scholarship.
14. On April 27th the Leech Lake Tribal Council approved the concept for a special Youth Employment program. The major goal of the program is to provide career mentorship in areas a student has chosen as a career goal. These goals would be based upon the Career Assessments that students completed in school. The target age group is 13-18. The first priority is PSOE students who are already earning credits for college. Second is grade point with A then B then C. It’s a ten week program and positions can be both on and off the reservation. Please see Gerald White for details on how to apply.
15. Anyone interested in being on Student Council, please get an application from Mr. Carlstrom or Mrs. Felosi as soon as possible.
16. Habitat for Humanity Home Build. If you are age 16 or older, you have the opportunity to earn .5 DRHS credits while participating in the construction of a home in Deer River. This home will be built during the weeks of July 20-July 31st – students must complete 75 or more hours to receive the DRHS credit. See Mr. Newton or Mrs. Moll for more information. This is an excellent opportunity to earn community service hours which look fantastic on college and scholarship applications.
17. FYI: Students on the “No Pass List” should not be in the halls unsupervised. This includes the Warrior Walk for Wellness.
18. During Senior High lunch hour, senior high students should not be in the hallways where junior high classes are being held.
19. AFTER SCHOOL STUDENT BUILDING USE: Students in the High School after 3:30 p.m. have one of three options. Those options are: (1) A High School sponsored activity; (2) Boys & Girls Club; and, (3) tutoring. Students not participating in these activities are allowed only in the Commons. More information: (1) Students are required to sign up for tutoring by 6th hour every day. (2) TEENS: The only time that you can be at Boys & Girls Club is from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 3:15 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday’s. Students who are unable to follow these rules will lose their privileges and will be required to leave the High School premises after 3:30 p.m.

Activity/Athletic Information
1. Letter jacket sign up: If you would like to order a letter jacket this spring, please sign up on Margie’s desk by Tuesday, May 12th. The salesman from Clafton Skate will be here on Wednesday, May 13th, starting @ 9:00 a.m. You must sign up & get a pass from Margie to meet with the salesman.
2. The baseball team fell to Chisholm with a score of 9-3. Lucas Benson hit a three run homeroom to pull us within 4-3 in the 6th inning! The Junior High team beat Chisholm 4-2.
3. Any sophomore, junior, or senior wanting to vote for this year’s Senior Weight Warrior should stop down to the fitness center sometime during first hour or stop by room # 206 during my advisory. You will be voting for one senior girl and one senior boy. This year is going to be a tough race. Deadline for the vote will be Friday, May 15th. We will start voting next Monday, May 11th.
4. There will be a Boys Basketball meeting today during advisory. If you did not play basketball last year and are interested in playing see Mr. Anderson before the meeting.

Baseball at Hill City Varsity & JV at 4:30 p.m.
Golf Meet at Blueberry Hills Varsity Boys @ 4:45 p.m.
Softball at Albrook Varsity & JV @ 4:30 p.m. Teams released at 2:00 p.m.
Track at Hibbing Varsity @ 4:00 p.m. Team released at end of 5th hour.
Junior/Senior/Scholarship Information:
1. SENIORS: If you need extra announcements we have some in the High School Office. They are $.70 each. If you are interested in a senior hoodie, the office has one and it’s going for a mere $26.00.
2. Amber Patrick Memorial Scholarship – $1000 scholarship available for DRHS seniors – applications available in the counseling office. Deadline is today.
