Warrior Words
Monday, May 26th
1. Seniors: Graduation practice (mandatory) will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the old west gym. It will take about an hour which will include paying any fines, locker check, & senior survey. Thank You, Mr. Colligan.
2. Graduation is Sunday, May 31st at 2:00 p.m.
3. JUNIORS: You may pick up your class schedule for next year from Theresa in the office.
4. Locker cleanouts will be done Wednesday and Thursday. Students will be required to clean their lockers and remove any writing from the lockers and/or doors. Cleaning supplies will be on hand the day of the cleaning. Any writing/lockers that require a janitor to clean will be assessed a $10 fine similar to end-of-year penalties. The dates for the cleanout are: Wednesday – grades 7, 8, & 9 and Thursday – grades 10 & 11. Locks that are not removed from lockers will be cut on Monday, June 1st. You can turn in your rented lock to the office before school, during advisory, lunch hour, or after school.
5. The Media Center will be closed during advisory today. Please do not send students down during those times.
6. Student Council is selling the new mascot t-shirts for $10.00. There are a limited amount of shirts, so see Mr. Carlstrom ASAP!
7. There will be meeting for the 2010 Close Up students and parents tonight at 6:30 p.m.
8. Leech Lake Tribal College is sponsoring a National Summer Transportation Institute for students who will be entering grades 8-10. This will be a 4 week summer day camp. Dates are June 15-July 10. The NSTI will expose students to new career opportunities in the transportation industry through classroom instruction and fun field trips. There are 20 full-tuition scholarships available for students. Applications must be completed by June 1st. See Mrs. Moll for an application or you can contact Roselyn Jones (218.335.4270) or Juanita Wiley (218.335.4279) at LLTC for more information.
9. It’s not too late to get your DRHS Yearbook. There are still yearbooks available for purchase in Ms. Bennett’s room. The cost is $65.00 each. Bring cash or check to get your copy of the 2009 annual. They will be on sale until the tomorrow…or until they run out.
10. The fourth quarter AR awards will be held in the old gym during advisory today.
11. Summer Youth Employment with ISD #317 – Custodial duties – must be a graduating senior – apply in the District Office – $6.55 per hour.
12. AFTER SCHOOL STUDENT BUILDING USE: Students in the High School after 3:30 p.m. have one of three options. Those options are: (1) A High School sponsored activity; (2) Boys & Girls Club; and, (3) tutoring. Students not participating in these activities are allowed only in the Commons. More information: (1) Students are required to sign up for tutoring by 6th hour every day. (2) TEENS: The only time that you can be at Boys & Girls Club is from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 3:15 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday’s. Students who are unable to follow these rules will lose their privileges and will be required to leave the High School premises after 3:30 p.m.
Activity/Athletic Information
1. 2009 DRHS Warrior Golf Scramble Fundraiser – Saturday, June 27, 2009. For more information: www.isd317.org/golf or call 218.259.3129 Registration deadline is Friday, June 19th and open to the first 32 teams signed up.
2. Any student in grades 7-12 interested in joining the bowling team, please sign up in the office. Sign-ups will be taken until Friday. Practice will begin in late August with the exact time to be determined. If you have questions, please call Coach Vic Machen at 246-2402 or 244-5808.
3. The Warrior baseball team defeated the Ely Timberwolves 12-5 Friday night in Ely to end the regular season with a 16-4 record and winning 14 of their last 15 games. Dane Heig was the winning pitcher and didn’t allow any earned runs and struck out eight. Cole Knudson and Luke Benson were both 4 for 5 at the plate. Luke and Gary Perrington drove in four runs each. Gary and Travis Kane had two hits each. Travis and Cole scored three runs each and Tyler Erzar scored two. The Warriors have set a new school record for runs scored with 202. The old record was by the 1998 team with 180 runs.
4. The Warrior B squad won their game over Ely by a score of 14-1 and finished their season with a perfect 14-0 record. It is the second year in a row that the B squad has gone undefeated!! Great job guys!!!
5. Football Cheerleading sign up will be extended until 1st hr. on Thursday. If there is not enough numbers for a squad, the program will be eliminated. Sign up’s will be open for all girls from this year’s 7th to 11th grade. There will be a meeting for the girls that sign up during advisory on Thursday in the Commons.
Junior/Senior/Scholarship Information:
1. Wendy’s Heisman Scholarships – for students graduating in 2010, must have “B” or higher average, participate in at least one school sport, deadline is October 1, 2009. For more information go to: www.wendysheisman.com
