Wednesday, May 5th
1. Friday, May 7th, is an early out day. Students will be released at 1:17 p.m.
2. This is Teacher Appreciation Week, make sure to “thank” your teachers for the great job that they do!
3. There will be a 7th grade ETS meeting today during advisory in the Boys & Girls Club room.
4. There will be a senior class meeting for those students going on the senior trip during advisory today.
5. The last school blood drive was a success once again in spite of everything else going on. Memorial Blood Center’s goal was to collect 40 units of blood. 43 units were collected. We have, to my knowledge, the first Deer River student ever to be a member of the GALLON CLUB. Marcus Baker received a Gallon Button for giving eight units (pints) of blood during his high school career. Congratulations Marcus! Well done!
6. STUDENTS WITH LUNCH ACCOUNT BALANCES OF -$15.00 OR LESS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE YOUR LUNCH NUMBER STARTING WEDNESDAY, MAY 5TH. IF YOU ARE NEGATIVE, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ALA CARTE…PERIOD.
7. If anyone has money for the H2O Challenge, please turn it in to Mrs. Felosi before school or during advisory.
8. The Media Center will be closed during senior high lunch until further notice.
9. There are 11 school days to get your AR points. READ, READ, READ. May 20th marks the end of AR for the year, and the date to have all library books returned.
10. The Deer River Healthcare Centers Dietary department is seeking a “Team Player” to work casual hours. Food service experience desired, but not required. Ability to work flexible shifts and weekends. Submit application to, Administration Office. Come “join our team”. AA/EOE The closing date is Thursday.
11. Attention Prom Attendee’s: ALL students who are going to “After Prom” must have a signed permission slip (even if you are over 18)! Slips are on Ms. Evans’ door and are to be turned in to Bill Haubrich, Devon Pehrson, Ginger Lund, or Elliott Gielen.
12. SENIORS: ALL money is due for the DVD’S on MAY 12TH. Remember they are $20 each and you must sell 2 in order to attend. MAY 12TH is the day when the FINAL list will be determined for who is going on the trip. May 19th payment is due in full. If it is NOT received by this date you will not be attending. Total cost to go will be $80 for the day. Remember you can sell more DVD’s to help eliminate the cost of the trip. Each DVD above 2 takes $20 off the cost of your trip. On the senior trip you will need some spending money for activities that are not covered (e.g.: mall, breakfast, paintball, pop/popcorn for the movie). Please share the plan with your parents and contact me with questions. If you do not want to go, please inform Mr. Hermel A.S.A.P.!
13. The custodial staff at DRHS is looking for one additional student summer worker. If you are interested, please see Russ Bouchie for an application. The deadline for applications will be May 14, 2010.
14. Prom Attendees: You must pay Ms. Lynn before school or during advisory this week. Please do not interrupt her class.
15. Students interested in meeting new people from around the United States, seeing historic sites, flying to Washington, D.C., and above all, having an experience of a life-time, should sign up in the office or Mr. Drott’s door. If you have any questions just ask any of the students that went in the Close-Up group, Mrs. Felosi, or Mrs. Evans. We will be having a meeting on Monday, March 10th, in Mr. Drott’s room.
16. Attention Sophomores- If you are interested in volunteering to help with the Senior Citizen Prom, please sign up on the community education door, by Mr. Dahlberg’s classroom.
17. Open Library will be on Monday and Wednesday nights, NOT the usual Tuesday and Thursday. The library will be open on May 3rd and 5th, and then will go back to Tuesday and Thursday.
18. Prom attendees: Jessica’s Bridal will be in the commons the Monday (May 9th) after prom to pick up tuxes.

2. The JH baseball team picked up another win 11-2 last night against LFBF. Spencer Tibbetts picked up the win on the mound for the Warriors. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and struck out 9. Spencer Tibbetts and Aaron Howard led the Warriors at the plate. Aaron and Spencer were both 2-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Also contributing hits were Ben Eby, Dylan Latvala, Colton Hines, Max Villeneuve, Emery Jenkins and Gerardo Rivas. The JH teams’ record is now 5-3-1.
3. The Warrior baseball team defeated Littlefork-Big Falls 11-1 in five innings yesterday at home. Damon Benham led the hitters going two for two with a triple and two runs scored. Travis Kane and Cody Willis also had two hits each. Cody was the winning pitcher, struck out four, walked one, and did not allow a run in four innings. Kenny Benham pitched the last inning in the rain.
4. Baseball players are reminded that we have pictures today after school.

6. Anyone interested in joining the Deer River High School Bowling team needs to sign up in the high school office.
Junior/Senior Information:
1. There will be a National Guard Recruiter in the High School lunch room today.
2. JUNE ACT test – registration deadline is Friday. Students with free and reduced lunch can take the ACT test for free. Juniors – you will need an ACT test score for 4 year college admissions and for some scholarships. Do NOT wait until October, 2010, to take the test for the first time. See Mrs. Moll for practice tests!
