1. Last Thursday, the Boys Varsity Golf team finished fifth at Bigfork. Alyis Grauman led the team with a 44 and Travis Croaker was close behind with a 45. On Friday, the Girls Varsity Golf team won its 4th Northern Pines Golf meet of the year at Nevis. Becca and Emily Rudquist were top scorers with 47’s and Allison Deters shot a 50 to secure the 2 shot victory.

1. The Girls Varsity Golf team took first place in yesterday’s Northern Pines Conference meet at Blueberry Hills in Deer River. Becca Rudquist finished in a three way tie for the lead. Emily Rudquist ended in fifth, just two strokes behind the leaders with Raylene Smith posting the final team score. All the girls played well in the cold and wet conditions.

3. The Warrior baseball team scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-2 lead, but Cherry rallied to defeat Deer River 5-4 in a game played in Nashwauk yesterday. Cole Knudson and Kenny Benham had two hits each for the Warriors. Cody Willis gave up four hits, struck out seven and walked six in six innings of pitching.

4. Lifting for FOOTBALL: The football team will be lifting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 6:45 to 7:30 a.m. starting today. See Coach Drott’s for a lifting sheet for the week.

3. Cole Knudson’s RBI single drove in Travis Kane with the winning run in the 10th inning as the Warriors defeated the Nashwauk-Keewatin Spartans 4-3 last night at the King School Field. Luke Benson was the winning pitcher pitching the last 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Eythan Stangland pitched the first 6 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs, four hits, walked three and struck out seven. Travis Kane led the hitters with two hits and two RBI’s. Eythan had a double and Travis Schultz also had a hit. The B squad also won 15-5.

5. The last school blood drive was a success once again in spite of everything else going on. Memorial Blood Center’s goal was to collect 40 units of blood. 43 units were collected. We have, to my knowledge, the first Deer River student ever to be a member of the GALLON CLUB. Marcus Baker received a Gallon Button for giving eight units (pints) of blood during his high school career. Congratulations Marcus! Well done!

2. The JH baseball team picked up another win 11-2 last night against LFBF. Spencer Tibbetts picked up the win on the mound for the Warriors. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and struck out 9. Spencer Tibbetts and Aaron Howard led the Warriors at the plate. Aaron and Spencer were both 2-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Also contributing hits were Ben Eby, Dylan Latvala, Colton Hines, Max Villeneuve, Emery Jenkins and Gerardo Rivas. The JH teams’ record is now 5-3-1.

3. The Warrior baseball team defeated Littlefork-Big Falls 11-1 in five innings yesterday at home. Damon Benham led the hitters going two for two with a triple and two runs scored. Travis Kane and Cody Willis also had two hits each. Cody was the winning pitcher, struck out four, walked one, and did not allow a run in four innings. Kenny Benham pitched the last inning in the rain.
