Deer River High SchoolHome of the Warriors
Deer River High School (DRHS) has a long tradition of excellence in academics and extra and co-curricular activities. Individualization of educational plans along with high academic rigor allows DRHS to reach for the common goal of preparing all students for a post-secondary experience. The demands of a global economy, more than ever before, set a high bar for all students to achieve.
Rigor is a mainstay for all students at DRHS. Advance Placement classes in calculus and English challenge students at the college level and allows students to test for college credit. Project Lead the Way, pre-engineering courses, create a career pathway for students to prepare for a post-secondary engineering major and DRHS teachers receive mentoring from Itasca Community College (ICC) engineering professors. Most 7th and 8th graders have the opportunity to take Gateway classes as an experiential class in engineering. Senior high students can also earn college credit through Mesabi Range Community and Technical College in carpentry and welding. DRHS also collaborates with ICC in the nursing assistant program, Introduction to Natural Resources and Global Information Systems is in the works.
It is also important to understand that some students take longer to learn and that safety nets need to be put in place so that all students can achieve. There are support systems built into the school day as well as extended school day learning opportunities to build skills in math and reading.
The staff and students at Deer River High School have worked hard the past few years to build a safe, caring and welcoming environment in which all cultures, races and learners are accepted. Please stop by and visit us.
