Instant Alert 2/10
Greetings from Deer River Schools -
I’m calling to let you know of a couple important changes here in Deer River.
The first change is to our Food Service program. We recently switched to a different electronic system for managing school lunch accounts. As part of this change we will no longer be sending automated e-mail reminder notices for low balance accounts. We realize this may cause an inconvenience for you, and we hope to restore this ability in the future. The good news is all information regarding lunch accounts is now available on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Once you access your Parent Portal, just use the “accounts” feature. A document with directions for accessing Parent Portal has been posted to our website, www.isd317.org. (Click here to view this document)
If you are not familiar with Parent Portal, or do not currently have access, please call Jan Swanson at extension 211 between 7:00 and 1:00 and she can help get you set up. If you do not have computer access and want to check your food service account balance, you can also call Julie Sobolik at extension 236 between 11:00 and 3:30.
Because of the difficult economy, many people have had a change in their work situation. If your work situation has changed or you are having difficulty keeping up with your child’s lunch account, please consider submitting a Free or Reduced Lunch application. The entire process is confidential and your child’s lunch status is anonymous. If you are interested, please call Tiffany Johnson at extension 203.
I also want to make sure you know about the new afterschool program called Learning Academy. Learning Academy is designed for students in grades 3 through 8 and provides students an opportunity to increase skills and achievement in the areas of Math and Reading. Math sessions run after school on Monday and Wednesday and Reading sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. If you would like more information about Learning Academy, please contact your child’s teacher or building principal.
Because making opportunities like Learning Academy convenient for families is important, we are providing transportation close to home. A bus will leave the High School at 6:00 p.m. and travel North up Highway 6, ending in Talmoon, making several scheduled stops along the way. Any student staying after school may ride, whether in learning academy, tutoring, or extra-curricular activities. To take advantage of the after school transportation, call Josh Solem, our Out-of-School Program Coordinator, at extension 223.
I know this was a lot of information, so a copy of this message has been posted on our district’s homepage at www.isd317.org.
Thank you for your continued support of Deer River public schools -
Matt Grose
