Superintendent Matt Grose

Matt Grose has served as Superintendent of Deer River Public Schools since 2006. Prior to taking the high school principal job in Deer River in 2004, Matt taught math and computer science in the Twin Cities area. His Masters Degree in Education is from Saint Mary's University and his Principal and Superintendent certification, as well as a certification in School Technology Leadership are from the University of Minnesota. He is pursuing his doctorate with interests in resilience, leadership, culture, and change.

Besides serving as superintendent for Deer River, Matt currently chairs the Itasca Area Schools Collaborative, a collaborative of Itasca Community College and seven school districts in or near Itasca County whose mission is “To effectively and efficiently educate all learners.” The collaborative began with interests in shared high speed fiber, but since has broadened its scope to include many shared educational and administrative services across the region, including some exciting and nationally-recognized work in distance video technology.

Matt also has served on the Governor's Broadband Task Force, the Blandin Foundation's Broadband Strategy Board, the board of Think Small, the Leech Lake Boys and Girls Club Board, the Itasca Community College Foundation Board and the board of Ready4K, a state-wide early childhood education advocacy group.

Matt lives in Deer River with his wife and five children. He enjoys the outdoors, remodeling projects, and spending time with his family.
